Autumn in the Mother City and surrounds might just be one of the best and prettiest times of year for explorers to see the city in a different, albeit softer light.

As the summer crowds ebb away and the autumn leaves start to fall, there are signs of a province and city bracing for a hard, hopefully wet and undoubtedly cold winter but, at the same time, its citizens are almost learning how to enjoy themselves and breathe again after the long summer months.

And who can blame us? As with autumn harvest festivals, spectacular musical performances, literary festivals and so much more to savour, early autumn in the Western Cape is a truly glorious time!

Celebrate the End of Harvest Season with Durbanville Hills

Guests are invited to join Durbanville Hills, over in the scenic Durbanville Wine Valley, for a journey of discovery as part of their exciting Harvest Tour - Sip the Grape.

This adults-only event (no under 18s allowed) promises a mesmerising journey through the cellar, where tanks and the harvest rhythm make sweet autumnal music together.

Wander through this special space, learn about their cool climate grapes and speak to the estate hands that carefully guide every step in the harvest and fermentation process.

Then, sample some sweet, vibrant wines in this earliest chapter, as part of a truly rare glimpse into the winemaking process. It’s a delight for seasoned wine lovers and newbies alike!

Guests then gather around blending tables, where creativity and fun take centre stage. With some guidance and a fine choice of red wine components at your disposal, you can craft your own wine blend, seal a bottle and take home the moment and wine magic you’ve captured in a stunning glass bottle. Apparently, the experience also holds a beautiful surprise at the end, so you can leave feeling like a proper winemaker.

Lastly, close your experience off with a wine-paired, two-course menu at the estate’s tantalising Tangram restaurant.

Note: This experience runs from 18 February to 14 March on select Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5.30 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am.

This experience is surely suited to our seasoned solo travellers or romantic couples who are looking for an exhilarating, yet sophisticated wine experience a little beyond the busy city.

Then, when the day is down, you can journey home to the cosy, comforting embrace of our ravishing Riverview apartment, in beautiful Hout Bay, where you can watch the city lights and stars twinkling in a crisp autumn sky.

Or, if you book a Saturday slot, you can adventure further this side of the mountain, exploring Hout Bay, taking a drive along Chappies or even soaking up the sunset at our beloved harbour.

Sink Your Teeth into Dracula at the Artscape Theatre

From 13 - 29 March 2026, for a limited time, guests can sink their teeth into a truly spellbinding, sensual ballet version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which will show at the iconic Artscape Theatre.

This beautifully seductive ballet, which is amazingly performed by the Cape Town City Ballet and which has been choreographed by David Nixon CBE, will enchant you with its Gothic intensities and electrifying choreography.

It is hauntingly set to a recorded score featuring music by Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Michael Daugherty respectively.

The show runs for approximately two hours and 30 minutes (including the interval). Also, please note that no under 12s are allowed entry to the show.

Attend the Books on the Bay Festival 2026

Last but by no means least, we have the Books on the Bay festival, held near Hout Bay in beautiful, naval-inspired Simon’s Town, from 13 - 15 March 2026.

This now-annual literary event, which fondly celebrates the love of storytelling and reading in a historic, dreamy part of Cape Town, brings together readers, authors, illustrators, book enthusiasts and more.

The festival, and a shared love of books and reading, ties them together under an umbrella of thought-provoking discussions, book signings and fun interactive sessions, all with the bay’s beautiful setting as the magical backdrop!

This event is perfect for bookworms so that can mean basically anyone but generally we’re thinking it’s going to attract families, friend groups or even couples travelling together.

So, that means a stay at our elegant Boardwalk apartment, which happily sleeps a maximum of four guests at a time.

And because Simon’s Town is a pleasant drive away from Hout Bay, you’ll be perfectly situated for the festival weekend.
