Two (Newer) Markets in Cape Town for Guests to Enjoy

Cape Town is known and loved for its diverse markets. With everything from annual Christmas markets to seasonal markets that thrill, humble church markets, arts and craft markets, vegan-friendly markets and of course, fun, relaxed indoor or outdoor markets spread across our beautiful Mother City’s suburbs, it’s safe to say that Cape Town has a market for everyone to enjoy and almost around each and every corner of the city too!

In this post, though, we look at two specific, new markets near Hout Bay and Cape Town CBD:

Bo-Kaap Market

The Bo-Kaap market is new to the CT market scene, but it brings with it a wide variety of delicious food, rich culture and local music.

With plenty of beautiful goods to choose from, and lovely live music performances, this market is sure to become a favourite with time, especially given that it takes place in one of Cape Town’s most impactful, yet historic communities.

Market picks include hearty Cape Malay fare, keepsakes and local wares.

The market takes place weekly now on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 7pm at the corner of Pentz Street and Yusuf Drive, Bo-Kaap.

Why Try It?

Because it’s free to enjoy, it offers a wide range of local goods, clothing, tasty food and drinks and because there is even great live music and a good outdoor atmosphere to savour.

Best for Which Type of DK Villas Guests:

Possibly, families and groups of friends travelling together. As well as international guests who will surely relish the opportunity to explore Bo-Kaap from the ground up and mingle with locals at this fun market.

Given this, it’s ideal for our Harbour View guests, as our stylish three-bedroom apartment in Hout Bay offers all the space, comfort and Cape Town beauty you could want. It’s also a great base from which to explore the Bo-Kaap Market as it’s a relatively short, scenic drive from town.

The Newlands Market

Another market that’s still new to the scene is the monthly Newlands Market, which celebrates lifestyle and halaal food choices.

This finely curated market also offers entertainment, good food and a range of interesting market goods but it’s the vibe that keeps you coming back for more.

This market takes place every month (next market is on 25-26 April 2026) at the Newlands Cricket Ground, 146 Campground Road, Newlands.

Why Try It?

Because it’s one of Cape Town’s most carefully curated market experiences and it’s held at a gorgeous, famous Cape Town location. Need we say more?
