The V&A Waterfront is one of South Africa’s most world-famous shopping destinations and whether you are a local or tourist, it’s a popular place for dining, harbour views, fun indoor- and outdoor-experiences, open air concerts and shows and so much more.

In this post, we focus on some great V&A Waterfront activities and experiences. Best of all? Some of them are a little more unusual and lesser known.

The Cape Wheel

This rather iconic V&A Waterfront experience takes you 40 metres above Breakwater Boulevard and rewards you with stunning views of Granger Bay, the harbour, city skyline, Robben Island and of course, Cape Town’s natural jewel, Table Mountain.

It’s a fun outing for young and old and offers a safe, comfortable experience. Especially as there are 30 enclosed, air-conditioned cabins for this 15-minute sky-high ride.

Why Try It?

Because it is great fun for the whole family and allows you to play tourist in your own city. And if you aren’t from the Mother City, it’s a special way to admire all of her beauty and some of her most iconic locations and attractions from above.

Bella is part-bus, part-boat and full fun! This UK-built amphibious vehicle allows you to go from the city streets straight into the harbour water. There are no transfers, just one amazing ride.

For added fun, your captain and onboard conductor keep things fresh and informative and you have peace of mind knowing Bella is built according to both international and South African road and safety regulations.

The trip departs from the kiosk at the Silo District, taking you through the city and into the harbour.

Trips last for an hour, with multiple trip departures per day. However, Bella’s trips are weather-dependent.

Why Try It?

Because it is a unique experience; we personally love it!

It’s great fun for the whole family and is a relatively new offering at the V&A Waterfront, so chances are most people haven’t experienced it yet!

The Shimansky Clock Tower Diamond Experience

If you prefer an interesting indoor activity, why not visit the Shimansky Diamond Experience?

Found in the Clock Tower Precinct, this thrilling tour experience allows you to explore the world of diamonds like never before.

The Cape Town Diamond Museum is the only one of its kind, as it takes you on a journey spanning back across the ages.

You can explore the museum, showroom and factory through a 45-minute guided tour (maximum 25 guests) and discover how diamonds are formed from mines to one’s finger. This unique SA museum also lets you explore the history of South Africa’s diamond rush and how (and where) it all began!

This one feels like it would be fun for couples, especially those eyeing their next anniversary gift or looking to pop the question.

And sure, diamonds are a girl’s best friend and all that jazz but our two-bedroom Boardwalk apartment is the best bet for travellers to the Mother City and Hout Bay.

Especially as it sleeps a maximum of four guests, including children.
