Hout Bay | Cape Town

Hout Bay, or the Republic of Hout Bay as it is affectionately known by locals, is a fantastic sea-side neighbourhood in Cape Town that offers something for everyone, any day of the week.

Hout Bay is very much a suburb on its own & the lifestyle, although only 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, is completely different to the city life so close by. Nestled in a valley, surrounded by spectacular mountains one gets the feeling of being out in the countryside. Hout Bay enjoys a bustling yet relaxed beach and cosmopolitan combination vibe. Hout Bay, with its many shops, takeaways, restaurants and coffee bars has just about everything you need.

There are many outdoor activities available close by these include surfing, walking, horse riding, cycling, motorbike riding (hire a Harley-Davidson!), yachting, boat tours, diving, bird watching & superb beaches to name a few.

The mountains surrounding Hout Bay also make for great hiking. You will spot the more adventurous hikers coming past to ascend over the ‘saddle” through the protea forest and connect with the Vlakkenberg hiking trail.

There are a variety of boutique shops, coffee shops, fine restaurants in the village and the “Bay Market” open from Friday to Sunday with live music on a Friday. The picturesque harbour is where you can buy some of the best fish and chips in the world.

Please make use of Uber or a local metered taxi like Rikkis, Home Heroes or Excite to drive you home safely after a good night out. Don't drink and drive. Cape Town city centre is approximately 20km from Hout Bay with attractions from nature, theatre, museums, music, shopping and a vibrant nightlife. The MyCiti bus stop is just down the road. Everyone over four years of age needs their "myconnect" card to travel. The cost is R30 from MyCiti station kiosks or participating retailers.

The Red “Hop-on Hop-off” Sightseeing bus is also on your doorstep, and is highly recommended. We do however recommend that our guests hire a car as there is so much to see and do.
