The holiday season is well and truly here and that means parents and parental guardians must find ways to entertain kiddies of all ages, especially as the school holidays seem to go on and on.
Thankfully, in a city like Cape Town, there’s no shortage of activities and entertainment to enjoy, especially in the summer season:
1) Clay Cafe Fun (across the Western Cape)

With branches across the Western Cape (including in the city, Hout Bay, George and Paarl), Clay Cafe is a widespread, fun experience for young and old alike to enjoy.
The Clay Cafe allows you to unleash their inner artist as you choose a clay item to paint and decorate yourself. Once it’s been painted, the clay items get glazed nicely and then they are ready for you to collect sometime later (usually within a few weeks or so).
The best part is the cafes allow you to savour good food and drink like a traditional cafe (either before or after or even during your painting experience) and they generally have beautiful indoor and outdoor settings, as well as great playgrounds on-site for little ones to explore.
For more information on the Clay Cafe branches and experiences, please see their website: claycafe.co.za.

2) Visit the V&A Waterfront for a Myriad of Activities
The V&A Waterfront has a variety of fun, festive activities and events for kids and families to enjoy this holiday season.
Naturally, this includes regular attractions like the Cape Wheel, Two Oceans Aquarium, Toy Kingdom mini train ride and Ster Kinekor Kids’ Cinema or even the revamped OZCF market.

But there’s more! Seasonal event highlights include Santa and his elves at Centre Court from 13 - 24 December 2025; Naledi’s Book of Magic (a thrilling theatre production which kicks off from 13 December) and so much more.

3) Hit the Canal Walk Holiday Slides

If you want to enjoy a tropical-meets-ice experience at Canal Walk this holiday season, then the annual Holiday Slides event is the perfect family fun.
This year, it’s inspired by Disney’s popular Lilo and Stitch and it features two epic slides, including the classic ice slide and a new dry slide for truly high speed fun.
For little ones, there are dedicated sand and snow play zones, which should keep little hands busy for a creative while.
The Holiday Slides are suitable for the whole family, with full rider, mini rider (under 5s), mini plus rider (ages 3-5) and non-rider (accompanying parents/guardians under 2s) tickets available from Webtickets or at the box office.
The event runs from 5 December 2025 - 11 January 2026 (except Christmas Day, 25 December 2025, when it is closed), from 10am - 8.45 pm.
Please note: This is a cashless event.
